MEDIATION TECHNIQUES FOR HR PROFESSIONALS

This 3 hour interactive course is designed to help HR professionals deal more effectively with employee disputes and to avoid the time, hassle and stress of formal grievances, utilising techniques used in professional mediation.

The course is delivered by the Director of Pragmatism (UK) Ltd Pete Colby who is a fully qualified and experienced Mediator accredited by the Civil Mediation Council. He is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and has held senior executive positions in organisations ranging from SMEs through to prestigious blue chip companies such as Rolls-Royce.

Throughout his 34 years experience in industry Pete has always had a passion for avoiding formal grievances in the workplace - both as a HR professional and also the several years he spent as Factory Manager for two large manufacturing plants.

Having always worked closely with Trade Unions and unrepresented Employee Forums, Pete will share his experiences of eliminating the need for unnecessary formal grievances - in one organisation reducing formal grievances from 12 per week to just one in a year.

The course is held online and is restricted to a maximum of 16 delegates in order to enable interactivity.

There is also an option for a follow-up 60 minute one-to-one discussion with Pete (normal cost £135 + VAT) to discuss any specific issue that you face in the workplace, offering guidance around different ways to resolve the problem. This can be booked any time within a month of the training.

Cost: £ 70 (including VAT) per delegate

WEDNESDAY 22nd JULY 2020 (9.30am - 12.30pm)

REDUNDANCY CONSULTATION TRAINING

This 3 hour interactive course is designed to help people deal more effectively with redundancy through effective consultations.

The course is delivered by the Director of Pragmatism (UK) Ltd Pete Colby, who is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and a Workplace, Civil & Commercial Mediator within the Civil Mediation Council.

Pete has held senior Employee Relations positions in organisations ranging from small businesses through to prestigious blue chip companies such as Rolls-Royce and British Steel. He has managed redundancy programmes ranging from one or two employees through to full site closures totalling thousands of employees.

Pete describes redundancy as one of the most difficult things that people who genuinely care can deal with - whether it's being on the receiving end (he has himself been made redundant twice) or managing the process itself, but he firmly believes that effective consultation with employees can make a world of difference.

Pete says "Yes, the law tells us when we should consult and how long for - but those who know me won't be surprised to hear me describe the law as simply the minimum standard. There has never been a better time to operate well above the law - how redundancy processes are carried out can be literally life-changing for individuals. They're also incredibly insightful for companies - I've seen the end result improved so many times through effective consultation with employees. We have to remember that employees are potentially being dismissed and losing their livelihoods for something that is not their fault. They deserve more than box-ticking. They deserve everything we can give them".

Pragmatism UK are always keen to know more about the experience and specific challenges of delegates so the session can be as customised as possible, therefore this course is restricted to a maximum of 8 delegates in order to maximise interactivity.

Cost: £ 75 (including VAT) per delegate

AUGUST 2020

MANUFACTURING FOR HR PROFESSIONALS

The majority of HR professionals have a desire to contribute more to the "bottom line" of their business and become true business partners. Often there are barriers in place to achieving this in manufacturing - whether it be a lack of understanding of technical terms, a nervousness around spending time at the 'coal face' or not being able to see what the real people issues are.

This half day interactive course helps HR professionals to engage in manufacturing discussions, and also establish more confidence to engage proactively and directly with the employees and leaders at the heart of the business they support.

Delegates will learn how critical OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency) is for any manufacturing business, but also why it's important that HR professionals understand what this means and the numerous ways that HR can influence and help manufacturing colleagues by understanding OEE and other key elements of a manufacturing business.

The course is run by our Director Pete Colby who has three decades of experience in manufacturing, including several years managing factories and working with HR as a support function. Pete is also a Fellow of the CIPD and has 25 years experience as a HR professional within a number of manufacturing industries.

The course also offers an option for a follow-up 45 minute slot with Pete to discuss your own business and how you can put into practice some of the things you have learned on the course.

The course is held online (via Zoom) for a maximum of 20 delegates.

Costs

£59 + VAT per delegate (course only)

£99 + VAT per delegate (course + 45 minute individual consultation)
