Avoiding disputes Tip #7 - be aware that your actions today could be scrutinised by HMRC any time over the next 5 years. Employees will be more cautious about raising issues at the moment whilst there's uncertainty over jobs. If they're made redundant or have other issues in months and years to come they may be less concerned about putting their heads above the parapet. If you're breaking the rules don't get complacent about a lack of disputes in the short term!
Avoiding disputes quick tip #6 is to constantly engage and listen to your Trade Union / Employee Representatives. This will be so critical as you move forward and we all know that if you actually listen to employees and understand their challenges and (importantly) take on board their ideas then you get a better result!
We're picking up a number of issues where employers are incorrectly assuming that because they're funding 20% of an employee's salary they have the right to ask the employee to do 20% of their job whilst furloughed. This absolutely isn't the case!
In this blog I provide a link for anybody wanting to receive our 55 practical tips on returning employees from furlough. Whilst there are no precedents or comprehensive governmental guides (at the time of writing) I wanted to share the thoughts I had given to the CIPD's People Management magazine for their upcoming edition.
